Frequently Asked Questions

1. Who is Goods Protection?
A. Goods Protection is the trading name of Goods Protection Limited, Goods Protection is a brand new not-for-profit organisation designed to help members of the public who find themselves in financial difficulty and who are at risk of having their domestic assets seized by a bailiff in order to re-pay a debt.

2. How does the rental contract protect me?
A. Goods Protection purchases your goods or possessions from you for a specified period of time (usually between 14 - 84 days). These items are then rented back to you using a short term rental agreement. At the end of the contract you purchase the goods back for the same price we paid for them (£10.00). During the rental period the bailiff cannot seize the property because it does not belong to the person who owes the debt. As long as your possessions remain covered by a Goods Protection rental agreement they are safe.

3. Do I still have to pay my debts once I have taken out a rental agreement with Goods Protection?
A. Yes, taking out a short term rental contract does not remove your debt - it still has to be repaid. The rental agreement protects your possessions from seizure while you sort out your repayments, it buys you the time you need without the risk of seizure.

4. What happens if I need longer than 84 days protection?
A. Provided you elect to extend your cover prior to the termination of your contract you can extend the terms for a further 14 or 84 days. This can be done as many times as you feel is necessary. If however you allow your contract to expire and then need our help again, you would need to register as a new customer again.

5. How do I know that Goods Protection will never keep my goods?
A. Goods Protection guarantees that they will never remove or keep your belongings. When you first register as a new customer, your first payment includes a registration fee and your chosen period of rental fee. As you have paid all of the costs up front you never owe the company any money except for the £10.00 we gave you to purchase your goods from you. Therefore your assets are safe.

6. Do I have to pay the registration fee every time I extend my protection cover?
A. No, providing the renewal rental fee is received before your contract expires, you will only have to pay the rental charge on any further contracts. If you allow your contract to expire, you would then need to re-register as a new customer again and you will be charged for setting up a new account.

7. Why do I need to use Goods Protection?
A. Goods Protection is a national Not-For-Profit company that will provide you with indisputable, legal evidence in the form of a rental contract that the property specified on the rental agreement is not owned by you. Providing that your cover is extended and pre paid every 14 or 84 days the goods in question cannot be taken away by a third party. Goods Protection is the first and only company to offer this new service. We are a Not-For-Profit organisation that is here to help you.

8. Why should I sign title of ownership of my belongings over to Goods Protection instead of a friend or relative?
A. if you do not sign the title of ownership of your belongings over to Goods Protection, your belongings may be seized by a bailiff in order to recover the payment of your debts. It is very difficult for a friend or relative to prove title of ownership without legal documents and assurances that come with dealing with a large national organisation.

9. Does Goods Protection offer a value for money service?
A. Yes, the costs of not being protected if you are liklely to receive a visit from a bailiff far outweighs any charges made by Goods Protection. If a bailiff comes to your house to seize your goods you will be charged for his services every time he comes, if you can prove to the Bailiff that you do not own any possession in your home he cannot charge you for taking them away, storage or selling them. Following the opening of your account, the cost of protecting your belongings could be as low as £4.97 per week + VAT for as long as you need help. A full year's rental is often less than the cost of one seizure of property and it is far less traumatic.

10. Can Goods Protection protect all of my Assets and Belongings?
A. Yes, with only three exceptions,
Goods Protection does not cover buildings or your home.
Goods Protection cannot protect any item which you do not own outright.
Goods Protection cannot protect a Motor Vehicle that requires a government registration certificate;
Note;
It is important to note that if you do not own any item or even if there is a dispute over ownership it will be void even if you itemise it on the rental agreement.

11. What happens if there are more than one person living at the same address?
A. All contracts have the option of being put into joint names. If you live with a partner you can pay a small fee and have a joint contract. The inventory must show both parties possessions and show which person owns each item.

12. I have already allowed a bailiff into my home and signed an agreement to pay my debts. Can I still take out a contract with Goods Protection?
A. No. Once you have made an agreement with the bailiff we can not help you until you have repaid the debt as you agreed. Once you have repaid the debt you are then free to use our services to protect you from any future problem.
